SUMMARY:Six Mile Grove with Erik Koskinen and Josiah Smith
DESCRIPTION:Six Mile Grove returns to the Castle stage\, bringing along friends Erik Koskinen and Rochester’s own Josiah Smith! \n7:00 pm | Doors\n7:30 pm | Josiah Smith\n8:00 pm | Erik Koskinen\n9:15 pm | Six Mile Grove \nTickets:\n$30 admission-for-two early bird special (GA) – limited quantities\, available through Thursday\, November 7\n$20 advance (GA)\n$25 day of show (GA) \nPremium options: limited quantities\, available through Wednesday\, November 27\n$30 premium reserved seating\n$110 Reserved table for 4 \n\nSIX MILE GROVE\nIt all started in the small town of Lyle\, MN (pop. 500) with a skid loader and a fence post\, when Six Mile Grove frontman Brandon Sampson was 7 years old. He injured his hand when helping his dad on the family farm. The physician recommended guitar playing for rehabilitation\, and a few weeks later\, Sampson came home from the music store with a new guitar. His younger brother Brian threw a fit\, and was appeased with a shiny drum set. And so the seeds of Six Mile Grove were planted. \nThe brothers spent years pounding away on their instruments in the kitchen of their great grandmother’s old house\, as well as singing in church with their mom\, an organist and devoted music lover. Soon Brian’s friend Barry\, from across the woods\, wanted to join the noise\, and so his years of piano lessons began paying off. The boys realized they would need a bass player\, put an ad in the paper\, and dug up Dezi Wallace from the “big city” of Austin\, MN\, who arrived courtesy of his mom\, as he did not yet have a driver’s license. \nFast forward 20 years\, and Six Mile Grove has a lot to be proud of. They have weathered the ever changing music scene as a primarily self-managed\, self-produced\, and self-recorded band. Their music has evolved accordingly\, as an organic\, honest voice that has not been tinkered with or tainted by the lure of record labels or flashy music producers. You’re sure to find influences of Minnesota music’s founding fathers; from Bob Dylan to the Jayhawks. Six Mile Grove honors it’s roots\, but has also managed to forge it’s own sound and space on a stage without compromise. \n\nERIK KOSKINEN\nErik Koskinen’s Burning the Deal (June 28\, 2019\, Real Phonic Records/Tone Tree Music) is steeped in American roots and traditions. \nBorn in Fort Collins\, Colorado\, raised in Northern Michigan and upper New York state\, then living in urban Minneapolis and now\, rural Minnesota\, Koskinen grew up with the rhythms of weather\, factory towns\, and farmlands. Koskinen worked in construction for years as he developed his music career\, and he now resides on a farm near where he owns a recording studio in Cleveland\, Minnesota\, population 717. \nOf Burning the Deal\, he says\, “It’s not only Americana music. I learned how to play blues music. I learned how to play country music\, and how to play folk\, bluegrass\, jazz\, whatever. I learned how to play American music.” The nine songs share a stripped-down\, almost naked quality\, but complexities lie just under their skin. Part of that depth can be attributed to the top-notch players Koskinen recruited: Greg Leisz (Jackson Browne\, Beck\, Joni Mitchell) on lap and pedal steel and mandolin\, plus the rhythm section of drummer Jay Bellerose (Alison Krauss and Robert Plant\, Willie Nelson) and bassist Jennifer Condos (Don Henley\, Marc Cohn\, Ray Lamontagne). As for how he managed to gather them together — twice — for recording sessions in Ojai\, California\, Koskinen quips\, “In the music biz\, you’re always one person away from knowing the president.” \nBurning the Deal\, his fifth album\, follows Cruising Paradise (2018)\, Live at the Real Phonic Radio Hour (2016)\, America Theatre (2014)\, and Keep It to Yourself (2010). \n

SUMMARY:Art Heads Live: The Deltaz & Josiah Smith
DESCRIPTION:Art Heads Live: Josiah Smith // The Deltaz \nTHE DELTAZ\nThe Deltaz have worked over a decade to master a wide spectrum of sounds\, from heavy blues and roots rock to classic country and folk. Brothers John Siegel and Ted Siegel spend many of their days perfecting new records at a handmade studio adjacent to residence in the hills of Mulholland Highway that overlook Los Angeles. They have become mainstays at a nearby Southern Californian institution\, The Old Place\, regularly performing for patrons at the ever-packed restaurant in the mountains. There\, they caught the ear of the late bassist Rick Rosas (Neil Young\, Joe Walsh)\, who became a mentor to the group. They spend their remaining hours rigorously touring\, headlining shows across the country while attracting the attention of sonic peers such as alt-country act The White Buffalo and Mississippi Blues legend Watermelon Slim\, playing with both on several occasions. The Deltaz have had their music placed on CMT and MTV television shows such as Jersey Shore and Party Down South. Most recently The Deltaz had their song “Wild Mustang” featured in upcoming film “The Devil Has a Name”\, recorded as a duet with vocal rock legend Bonnie Bramlett (Eric Clapton\, Leon Russell) \nThe Deltaz were formed while the brothers were still in high school. The boys had already immersed themselves in the last century of popular music by that point\, and this passion led them both to quickly pick up their respective instruments of choice. Ted has grown into one of the sharpest guitarists among the independent scene in Los Angeles today\, while commanding drummer John has expanded his role in the group over the years to include impressive harmonica work and vocal harmonies that leave audiences overwhelmed at his coordination. The two have clearly learned to work with each other\, feeding off of each other’s talents to bring ever-climactic performances to energized and extremely diverse audiences. \nwww.thedeltaz.com\nhttps://www.facebook.com/TheDeltaz\nhttps://www.instagram.com/thedeltaz/ \nJOSIAH SMITH\n“A native of SE Minnesota in Chatfield’s Chosen Valley\, he’s a lover of many styles of music and art. Josiah’s voice and guitar playing have been described as ‘genuinely real’ and songs that ‘make you feel.’ His style is a melancholy mix of contemporary story telling with a few originals and covers in hopes to leave you both refreshed and relaxed.” He performs regularly at open mic’s around the area. You can follow him on instagram at @bassoonerthanlater. \nTuesday July 2nd\nDoors at 6:30\, Music at 7\nAll Ages\n$10
