While she’d long been one of East Nashville’s best-kept-secrets\, she burst onto the international scene with the 2016 release of her first solo album\, ‘Midwest Farmer’s Daughter’. Beginning as a bedroom songwriting project\, Almighty American was conceived with the release of the ‘On the Edge’ EP (April 2015) produced and recorded by Nate Washburn (Author\, The Earth and Everything in It\, Comrades\, Hannah Huston). \nWhile ‘On the Edge’ brought about a full-band lineup and arrangements\, Gay’s honest\, accessible writing and clever lyrics easily captured the attention of listeners on their own in more intimate environments. Relishing the atmosphere of the acoustic set\, Gay found himself more regularly playing solo sets under the Almighty American moniker. These solo shows birthed the idea for a series of stripped down acoustic EPs that reach the listener in a more focused way. Gay released the first of these – ‘Songs With Legs vol. 1’ (January 2017) to a sold out Warming House in Minneapolis. \nWith two EPs under his belt\, Gay was eager to craft Almighty American’s first full length album. Before Songs with Legs vol. 1 was released\, Gay approached Danny O’Brien (The Farewell Circuit\, Fraea\, DEM YUUT\, M. French) to produce the record\, utilizing some of his favorite local players (Andrew Schibilla\, Beck Nebel\, Joel Bowers). Together\, the band set to work on what would become ‘Somewhere Ride’. Minnesota native\, Folk/Blues singer-songwriter and amateur musicologist\, Matthew Griswold\, is currently playing hundreds of his modern day minstrel shows each year. Though a “solo” performer through trade title\, he carries the sound of layered guitars and an array of dynamic vocal themes. Those elements are then supported by a boot strapped foot stomping on a wooden cigar box drum and keeping his signature hypnotic voodoo-ish groove. Griswold’s performances are rugged\, haunting\, howling\, bone-shaking affairs where all of the grit and soul of a man who has seen the war torn battlefields of Iraq\, yet still sought hope after the worst of tragedies\, are brought forth through one voice and one guitar. He confidently leaves his crowds cradled in subtleties\, but rocked by an undeniable presence. Those who witness him live\, will experience a musician who inhabits\, and is inhabited by\, his music as if it were a spiritual transformation allowing all to dance in the dragon’s den. \nHe has crafted an arrangement style of his own (the “Hypnotonic Sacred Blues”)\, which he employs to reinvent well known classics\, traditional standards\, or plug original songs that pay tribute to their Sacred Blue Note lineage. With a well-honed natural talent\, an ego voided work ethic\, and an applied practice of musicology tilting the odds in his favor\, Griswold has become one of the country’s most noted independent working musician/songwriters. He has over ten years of strategic millage marked by thousands of live performances and hundreds of intriguing press features\, all while building a dense catalog of works to be preserved by the those he refuses to call “fans”\, and more proudly refers to as “Witnesses of a Fellowship”. Griswold has gained both industry notoriety and scholar level respect as an ‘Alt-Folk/Blues’ era music maker\, and while having had many of his original songs and compositions used in various films\, TV shows and commercials around the globe through a contract with Universal Music\, no matter where you stand\, you’re never far from someone who has likely been spellbound by his hypnotic rhythms\, tonic blue notes\, and howling edge …. even if unknowingly!

They are very talented\, funny and friendly musicians who show that they truly love to perform. \nRavensFire has played dozens of local venues and festivals all around the area through the years\, including the main stages at festivals in Milwaukee\, St. Paul\, Emmetsburg\, La Crosse\, and Rochester. The busy calendar for 2016 included performances at many concerts\, festivals\, theater productions\, public and private events. \nThe award-winning members of the band have also performed and recorded in Nashville\, Las Vegas and Dublin\, Ireland. The RavensFire band was warmly received on a recent third singing tour in Ireland. \nAudiences everywhere clap furiously along with the RavensFire band’s version of the popular old song Whisky in the Jar\, and chime in proudly on the original patriotic piece\, Hurrah for the Heroes. The new CD features both of these songs and many more. He explains\, “That’s certainly why I love so many different styles of music. My dad was always playing ZZ Top\, Stevie Ray Vaughan\, and Jimi Hendrix whereas my mom would listen to Smokey Robinson\, The Temptations\, and Stevie Wonder.” Cole’s father Mark\, an accomplished guitarist in his own right\, would let Cole tag along to his gigs at an early age. At age 13\, Allen received a guitar for his birthday and started a band of his own only a year later. In the decade that followed\, the Cole Allen Band toured extensively throughout the Midwest and notably opened for Bret Michaels\, LA Guns\, Bobby Rush\, Corey Stevens\, and John Mayall. \nCole Allen’s songwriting\, described by many as mature well beyond his years\, and masterful guitar playing was showcased on his debut 2012 EP “Headed For Hollywood.” The blues rock scene took notice. “Cole embodies the definition of a unique talent with the major ‘It’ factor that can’t be bought\, taught or obtained in any manner other than simply being born with a musical gift that touches his fans deep in their hearts and souls.” (Legendary Rock Interviews) \nFollowing the rave reviews of his EP\, Allen released a full length self-titled album of originals in 2013\, pushing him further on to the National blues rock scene. SUMMARY:Joe Carey at Forager Brewing Company
DESCRIPTION:Bio\nMinnesota-based singer-songwriter Joe Carey has been making rock and roll noise for over three decades. \nIt all started in St. Paul where\, at the age of 10\, he’d gotten his first guitar as a gift from jolly ol’ Santy Claus. It was an Eddie Van Halen replica out of the annual Sears holiday catalog. At first\, Joe hadn’t a clue how to operate such an instrument but after taking a few lessons here and there and picking up a few tricks from slightly less clueless guitar slingers\, he was soon jamming out three chord pop oldies like “Louie Louie”\, “Wild Thing”\, “Twist and Shout”\, and “La Bamba” with his best friend Roman banging on the drums. Eventually\, Joe’s older brother Jim joined in on keyboards/vocals and before long\, the lads were tearing up St. Paul’s garage\, backyard barbecue\, and school function circuits. This would become a recurring theme for the brothers Carey throughout their junior high\, high school\, and early college years as they graduated from playing parties to coffee houses to bars under various monikers\, both together and separately. \nThen\, in the late 90’s\, the brothers formed a new Twin Cities-based power pop band called Loft. Joe\, in his mid 20’s\, had just returned home from a brief stint living in Colorado\, where he went to “find himself” like everyone else who moves there. As it turned out\, what he found was that he had a knack for songwriting…as well as his own singing voice. Both proved integral in launching the new outfit which would become one of the hardest working bands in the region. \nAfter a few successful years and two albums\, Loft disbanded and Joe and Jim continued to carve their niche in greater Minnesota’s music scene as The Careys\, eventually adding their younger sister Jessica as a third vocalist. In 2003\, Joe released his first solo album Wondervibe and spent the next several years splitting time between The Careys and playing alongside Nick Hensley in Love Songs For Angry Men. During that time\, Joe also began playing as a solo act and developed an interest in producing and engineering. \nIn spring of 2009\, he released his second solo effort Sunflower Soul which he wrote\, produced\, and engineered by himself in his own garage studio…he even played most of the instruments on the indie-rock record which was well-received by music critics statewide. As the late great Tom Hallett put it\, “It’s truly refreshing to hear somebody really be who they are\, say what they want\, and play what they want…Carey is one of those rare artists who can record with nearly the same enthusiasm and gravitas as they do in a live setting\, and more than a few of these pleasant little gems prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt.” – ‘Round The Dial – May 4th\, 2009 \nA few years later\, Joe\, along with local music staples Blair Krivanek (guitar)\, Nick Salisbury (bass)\, and Jordan Carlson (drums)\, formed soulful roots rock band The Chinwaggers…sort of by default. The group had been playing together on and off backing up other singers in the area until Krivanek suggested that they record some of Joe’s new songs. So they started tracking piecemeal at various locations and in 2014\, released the 10-song concept album Wayward Son. \n“Wayward Son\, rings with the energy and swagger of a band of sailors in a crowded Irish pub. The group’s seaworthy rock and folk instrumentals collide with Carey’s raspy\, bombastic vocals and heartfelt lyrics\, all to an intriguing and subtly debaucherous effect.
