SUMMARY:Ian Hilmer at Forager Brewing Company
DESCRIPTION:Ian Hilmer is a singer songwriter from southern Minnesota. Ian has been writing and recording songs for over 25 years. He wrote his first song “Here I Go Again” at age 15 and formed his first band shortly after with friend Pete Wagner that would eventually become The Void. After The Void disbanded in 1998\, Ian started his long solo career that has spanned over several years. Over the last 20 years\, Ian has played hundreds of shows to thousands of people. Ian has also opened for Mason Jennings\, Jonny Lang\, Nazareth\, Shawn Colvin\, Bret Michaels\, Dangerous Toys and Nicolas David. Although Drivestation will be the 5th album recorded by Ian\, this will be the first album he has released since 1999’s Kicking Time Cross Country. Minnesota native\, Folk/Blues singer-songwriter and\namateur musicologist\, Matthew Griswold\, is currently playing hundreds of his modern day minstrel shows each year. Though a “solo” performer through trade title\, he carries the sound of layered guitars and an array of dynamic vocal themes. Those elements are then supported by a boot strapped foot stomping on a wooden cigar box drum and keeping his signature hypnotic voodoo-ish groove. Griswold’s performances are rugged\, haunting\, howling\, bone-shaking affairs where all of the grit and soul of a man who has seen the\nwar torn battlefields of Iraq\, yet still sought hope after the worst of tragedies\, are brought forth through one voice and one guitar. He confidently leaves his crowds cradled in subtleties\, but rocked by an undeniable presence. Those who witness him live\, will experience a musician who inhabits\, and is inhabited by\, his music as if it were a spiritual transformation allowing all to dance in the dragon’s den. \nHe has crafted an arrangement style of his own (the “Hypnotonic Sacred Blues”)\, which he employs to reinvent well known classics\, traditional standards\, or plug original songs that pay tribute to their Sacred Blue Note lineage. With a well-honed natural talent\, an ego voided work ethic\, and an applied practice of musicology tilting the odds in his favor\, Griswold has become one of the country’s most noted independent working musician/songwriters. He has over ten years of strategic millage marked by thousands of live performances\nand hundreds of intriguing press features\, all while building a dense catalog of works to be preserved by the those he refuses to call\n“fans”\, and more proudly refers to as “Witnesses of a Fellowship”. Griswold has gained both industry notoriety and scholar level respect as an ‘Alt-Folk/Blues’ era music maker\, and while having had many of his original songs and compositions used in various films\, TV\nshows and commercials around the globe through a contract with Universal Music\, no matter where you stand\, you’re never far from someone who has likely been spellbound by his hypnotic rhythms\, tonic blue notes\, and howling edge …. even if unknowingly!

DESCRIPTION:Sarah Krueger is Eau Claire\, WI born and Duluth\, MN built. Between stretches of teaching jobs\, waiting tables\, and holing up in a cold Duluth hillside apartment\, Sarah has crafted a lustrous folk sound that serves as a breathing foundation for her earnest and straightforward songwriting. After three years of stints at Erik Koskinen’s Real Phonic Studio in Minneapolis\, Sarah and her rotating cohort of applauded artists carved out a record laced with a moody brightness and authentic vibe. In three years time\, we have “Lustrous”\, Krueger’s sophomore album featuring JT Bates and Erik Pollard on drums\, Erik Koskinen on guitar\, and Steve Garrington and Frankie Lee on bass. Sean Carey\, Jordan Taylor\, Don House\, Ben Lester\, Jake Hanson\, and Kyle Keegan also lend a hand in rounding out the songs as they come to fruition. This batch of songs are three years worth of finding light in our most human moments\, noticing the brightness before we were tainted and tired\, and believing in the luster that shows itself when we are most alive. At times the songs find themselves in a dark place\, often indifferent and working through to the light\, whereas some stand alone in the shine. Krueger’s zealous performing and prevailing voice offer a fresh presence to the stage and seem to hit all the soft spots in the complicated space between us all.
