SUMMARY:The New Standards Holiday Show
DESCRIPTION:The New Standards Holiday Show\nat the Historic Chateau Theatre\nSaturday\, December 13\, 2025\n7:00 Doors / 8:00 Music \nTickets: $40 GA advance; $50 GA day of show; $60 premium reserved seating; $300 reserved table of 4 with table service \n>>> BUY TICKETS HERE <<< \nFor seventeen years The New Standards and friends have been dazzling audiences with their soulful\, funny and spectacular Holiday Show. Chan Poling (The Suburbs)\, John Munson (Trip Shakespeare\, Semisonic) and Steve Roehm act as ringleaders for a merry troupe of musicians\, dancers and an all-star lineup of surprise special guests featuring a deep roster of music pals. Expect the unexpected at what will surely become your new holiday tradition. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe New Standards is a “revelatory” (Star Tribune) Twin-Cities-based trio with a global following. Formed in 2005 as an off-shoot project between three Minneapolis-based musicians and friends\, The New Standards has grown into a globe-spanning adventure—filling theaters and clubs around the world and spawning several CDs\, videos\, cartoons\, and dance and theater projects that have charmed and delighted an ever-multiplying legion of faithful fans. \nThe three core members of The New Standards all come from illustrious Twin Cities bands. Chan Poling founded the seminal Punk/New Wave band The Suburbs. John Munson was an original member of Trip Shakespeare and the chart-topping Semisonic. Steve Roehm started on drums in the Texas punk outfit Billygoat and the avant-jazz Electropolis. Sensing a lack of interesting jazz trio repertoire beyond the usual “old standards\,” they got together originally to play and sing their favorite songs—from every era\, particularly post 1960’s pop music—in a stripped-down acoustic setting\, making room for solos and arrangements with the freedom of jazz\, and yet never fully abandoning the modest soul of pop and rock. \nFor more\, visit: thenewstandards.com\nTwitter: @newstandards\nFacebook: @thenewstandards\nInstagram: @thenewstandardsband\nYouTube: @thenewstandardsband

This Minneapolis-based group formed in 2020. \nThe high-octane MC Cold Sweat delivers his Golden-Age Hip-Hop lyrics over a variety of musical stylings. In addition to the usual fatback rhythms\, you may hear some undercurrents of outlaw country\, disco\, and grungy rock. Hiahli is also known to throw in a few deep covers from the archives of hip-hop. \nFacebook | Instagram | Spotify \n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nClare Doyle\n\n‘It was a hell of a year\,’ says Americana artist-to-watch Clare Doyle\, reflecting on a breakout year in which she was named one of First Avenue’s Best New Bands of 2023\, an Emerging Artist of 2024 by Music in Minnesota\, and released three debut singles which garnered immediate attention for their infectious blend of soulful country and rootsy rock\, and a bold lyricism that’s hailed as “a fresh perspective in emotional storytelling” by Music in Minnesota. \nOriginally from Saint Paul\, Minnesota\, Doyle grew up singing along with her mom’s Johnny Cash CDs and her dad’s Gibson acoustic\, and dreamt of becoming a musician. She taught herself to play and write on a borrowed guitar in a college dorm room and began planning a move to Nashville\, but found herself fighting brutal self-doubt and influences that kept her from embracing her talent. \nFacebook | Instagram | Spotify \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented by Bleu Duck Kitchen & My Town • My Music

SUMMARY:Winterstate with Full Symphony Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:  \nTICKETS PURCHASED FOR THE ORIGINAL DATE ARE GOOD FOR THE MAY 31st\, 2024 DATE \n  \n\n  \nDoors: 6:30PM  |  Music 7:00PM | $15 advance / $20 day of show | All Ages \nMay 31st\, 2024 | Chateau Theatre | 15 1st St SW\, Rochester\, MN | 300 Capacity \nOpeners: Ashley Selnes & Jeremy Jewell \n  \n\n  \nWinterstate\nWINTERSTATE is an alternative rock band co-founded in 2015 in Valencia\, Spain by Berklee College of Music alumni Kelvin Killmon and Alexander Ortberg. \nAlexander Ortberg and Kelvin Killmon grew up in Minnesota – almost close enough to share an area code – but they were destined to cross paths 4\,500 miles from home under the sun-bleached palm trees at Berklee College of Music in Valencia\, Spain. The two became close friends while pursuing their Master’s degrees in performance and production\, and began working on original songs together. \nWhen the pair graduated in 2016\, Alex returned to Minnesota while Kelvin moved to Seattle\, but their musical collaboration has continued to flourish. Connected by interstate 90\, they chose the name WINTERSTATE as a reference to their long-distance work relationship and the icy climates of Minnesota and northern Washington. Their debut album “The Ride” was recorded simultaneously in both locations – with musical ideas being developed and traded back and forth over the Internet. \nOur passion is centered around creating community\, and sharing music that brings people closer together. We’re excited to share this new chapter in our musical journey with you. \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis activity is made possible through a grant from the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts & cultural heritage fund.\n\n\nAlso sponsored in part by: Northern Sun Productions\, Threshold Arts\, and My Town My Music\, LLC

SUMMARY:Trailer Trash's Trashy Little Xmas Show

Do you hear what I hear? That’s the sound of the Jingle Stick calling you to the Trashy Little Xmas Show! Want to kickstart your holiday mood? Here is the remedy: Don your gay apparel\, your humbug hat\, your crazy Xmas sweater\, or naughty/nice elf suit and take this time-tested crash course through the roadmap of holiday hits. Put down that cowbell\, grab the Jingle Stick and ring out the season’s beatings! This show is guaranteed to banish your winter blahs and make you merry again! \n \nTRAILER TRASH started at the 24 Bar in the now defunct Berman Buckskin Building in 1992. Moving to Lee’s Liquor Lounge in May\, 1993\, they held down a regular Wednesday night gig that became a midweek attraction of Minneapolis nightlife. Thanks to the resurgence of classic country music and swing-dancing in the mid-90s\, the band gained a following among new generations of music lovers. To this day\, TRAILER TRASH is known for playing traditional country music as well as a wide variety of styles from the American hit parade. A typically eclectic set list will span decades and touch the heart of every audience. \nTheir TRASHY LITTLE XMAS SHOW has become a perennial tradition for holiday revelers. They have performed at Super Bowl LII Live\, at Jesse Ventura’s Inaugural Ball at the Target Center\, and for the opening party at the new Guthrie Theater. They’ve provided the soundtrack to countless Twin Cities courtships and hundreds of wedding receptions. Somewhere in that time\, the group racked up seven Minnesota Music Awards\, appeared in two movies\, (Herman USA and Dill Scallion) and put out seven albums.

His debut album When Trouble Comes has been a long time coming. Songs like “Walls Of St. Paul” and “When Trouble Comes” were written while studying at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul\, Minnesota before coming home to help run the family restaurant business as a part owner. While buried in the business that is owning a restaurant\, he found time to play live music and create songs like “Down On Broadway” that tell of the late nights that follow a long day of work\, and the winding down that takes place afterwards. Using the peaceful vessel of a long drive\, Clay gracefully takes us through his journey showcasing the importance of family and relationships in his more recent songs “Show Me State” and “Call My Bluff”. Clay has a knack for writing clever and simple lines that are both approachable and memorable. We experience that first hand in the song “28 Days”. This album takes us back to the great American folk singers of yesteryear with a modern indie-pop twist; think John Prine meets Dawes. When Trouble Comes balances smart story-telling with serious but playful musical arrangements to support them. Clay definitely wants you to feel the angst\, frustration and grit of the ups and downs of love and life\, all while leaving you with a sign of hope. \nFollow Clay Fulton and the Lost Forty on:\nFacebook: facebook.com/clayfultonmusic\nInstagram: @clayfultonmusic \nLearn more about Clay Fulton and the Lost Forty at:\nhttps://clayfulton.com/ \n\n\n\nWatch\n \n\n\nListen\n \n\n\n\nCOVID-19 Policy\nWe will be implementing the following COVID policies for the show on November 4th*: \n\nProof of completed COVID-19 vaccination (at least two weeks after final dose) OR a negative test within 72 hours prior to the show will be required to enter.\nMasks are highly recommended for all while inside the Castle.\n\nThese policies follow what other events and venues are doing and will be enforced to make sure we all can have a safe\, enjoyable experience and continue to have live music in Rochester. The deadline to submit your refund request is June 30th\, 2021. \n\n\n\nLissie\n \nWhen you look back on your past accomplishments\, how do you feel? Do you have a strong sense of nostalgia—an urgent longing to bring things back to how they were? Are there things you wish you could’ve done differently? What would you celebrate\, and what would you change? \nFor Lissie\, her past—the last decade or so\, to be specific—is something still very much alive and open to interpretation and rephrasing. With the approaching release of When I’m Alone: The Piano Retrospective\, the singer is poised to show listeners that her past is hardly static\, that the songs she wrote nearly 10 years ago are still fresh and vibrant\, evoking feelings old and new. \nIn the eyes of the midwestern songstress\, who in recent years made a conscientious return to her roots with the purchase of some 50 acres in northeastern Iowa\, the operative metaphor at work in her career—and in the creation of the retrospective album—is something deeply entropic: gardening. \n“When you garden\,” she says\, thoughtfully\, “it’s like all of the things you eat and grow are beautiful\, and as they die and decompose\, that carnage becomes the food for the plants you grow next year. When you’re out in nature and there’s four seasons\, you see the cycle… It spurs my creativity to see how life becomes death becomes life. It’s this beautiful\, comforting thing because it’s a constant.” \nAnd that entropic beauty shines through in her work on When I’m Alone. When you listen to the lush\, atmospheric arrangements of Lissie’s best-loved\, most career-defining tunes\, you can almost hear the “carnage” of each past moment and remembered feeling coalescing to form this beautiful\, dark tempest of emotion and memory. \nIt’s a thought that should give you pause—when old songs make you feel new things. And that’s exactly what happens all throughout When I’m Alone. From the title track—reworked in a lower key\, Lissie’s voice moving\, breathing with all the strength it had when the original version dropped in 2010\, but with a new sort of power behind it—to the cover of Fleetwood Mac’s hit\, “Dreams\,” you get the sense that Lissie is writing a love letter to her past. And it’s not sad or nostalgic at all\, but mature\, grown-up\, looking backward and forward simultaneously. \nStacking up the 10 original songs on When I’m Alone next to their counterparts from throughout the past decade or so\, the differences are profound. The new arrangements\, written for piano\, are considerate\, quiet\, respectful of their former states. This disparity gives the listener a more complete look back on the arc of Lissie’s songwriting style and canon—the singer sounding more the chanteuse and less the folksy songbird of 10 years past. But we now know these songs are evergreen\, permutable. \nDon’t be lulled into a false sense of security by the idea of a piano-based retread of Lissie’s most accomplished hits\, though. This record is toned down without being buttoned up. These reinterpretations still move in the way the originals do. \nFor Lissie\, the idea behind When I’m Alone came about almost as a test of each tune’s structural integrity.“When you take a song out of its production and strip it down to its basic elements\,” she opines\, “you get the heart of the song. You find out whether it can stand on its own\, whether it’s a good song. When they come down to their basic bones\, are these really meaningful pieces that stand on their own?” \nThe answer here is a resounding “yes—yes they are.” But more than that\, they’re about respecting and appreciating the canon Lissie has crafted\, along with the emotions and moments that went into writing each song. \n“The reason I started writing songs when I was younger was this urgent\, pressing need of ‘this is how I process my experiences and my emotions\,’” she says. Now\, I’m revisiting what the songs were about\, which relationship inspired what\, and what point my life was at.” \nIn addition to looking back and analyzing and celebrating her songwriting\, though\, Lissie’s found herself reasserting her agency through these rearrangements\, saying “I’m seeing my romantic history over the last 10 years laid out in song\, times when things were challenging\, mistakes were made\, my feelings were hurt\, I acted badly… We can use themistakes as a lesson in order to grow. I feel like being able to go back and revisit my songs is slightly heartbreaking\, but also heartening—like\, I’ve survived this past decade. I get to decide when and how and what I share.” \nIt’s this spirit of retrospection and reinterpretation that truly affects what When I’m Aloneis as both a body of work and a test of artistry. And while we’re given this songbook-as-a-scrapbook to pore and puzzle over\, Lissie just wants to get back to her farm for a little while—to breathe the open air and sow some seeds in preparation for cultivating her next big move. \nFollow Lissie on:\nFacebook: facebook.com/lissiemusic\nInstagram: @lissiemusic\nTwitter: @lissiemusic \nLearn more about Lissie at: http://lissie.com/ \n\n\n\nWatch\n \n\n\nListen\n \n\n\n\nJillian Rae\n \nHaving cultivated a reputation as the go-to violin accompanist for dozens of bluegrass\, rock\, and pop bands (including The Okee Dokee Brothers\, Corpse Reviver\, Adam Levy\, and Steve Kaul & the Brass Kings) Jillian Rae planted her own flag in the musical landscape with the 2013 release of Heartbeat\, a confident pop record with subtle nods to her bluegrass and classical pedigrees. Her songs are full of heartache\, truth\, and often a beguiling sense of playfulness. Rae’s songwriting is not easily pigeonholed\, and neither is her playing. You can find her playing country fiddle on one tune\, rock guitar on the next\, or driving her violin through synthy guitar effects on another. \nAs engaging as her arrangements can be\, the real show stopper of her records or live performances is always her effortlessly powerful voice. When Jillian Rae sings\, you believe her. Such is the case on her 2017 EP\, Wanderlust. More of a stripped-down country record\, Wanderlust showcases Rae’s dynamic and earnest vocal chops. Music journalist Youa Vang called Rae a heavy hitter whose “voice will stay with you long after the show is over.” \nIf Jillian Rae fans thought that Wanderlust might be signal that she’s going country\, she has more surprises in store. With the release of her new full length “I can’t be the one you want me to be”\, Rae made an even harder pivot. Fans got an early taste of her collaborations with a new lineup and a new producer (The Library Studio’s Matt Patrick)\, in her cover of Prince’s legendary When Doves Cry. Released as a single\, the homage is not only a wholesale rewrite of the tune befitting the towering status of the original\, it’s also a marker of a new direction with this new staff on board. \nWith contributions from Patrick\, as well as guitarist and longtime collaborator Eric Martin\, bassist Jimmy Osterholt\, and drummer Alex Young\, “I can’t be the one you want me” to be is saturated in heavy grooves\, moody arrangements\, and unflinching honesty. And of course her voice\, which has never sounded better\, more dynamic\, or more true than it does on this collection of songs. \nFollow Jillian Rae on:\nFacebook: facebook.com/jraemusic\nInstagram: @jraemusic\nTwitter: @jraemusic \nLearn more about Jillian Rae at: https://www.jillianraemusic.com/ \n\n\n\nWatch\n \n\n\nListen\n \n\n\n\nPick up a “Support Rochester Music” Shirt\n \nWant to enjoy the concert in style and show your support for the Rochester music at the same time? SUMMARY:Matt Wilson & His Orchestra with Lo Duca
DESCRIPTION:Threshold Arts welcomes Minneapolis-based Matt Wilson & His Orchestra to the Castle with special guests Lo Duca. \n7:00 pm | Doors\n7:30 pm | Lo Duca\n8:30 pm | Matt Wilson & His Orchestra \n$12 in advance GA / $15 day of show GA / $60 premium reserved table for 4 (on sale Monday\, January 20)\nAll ages | Seated | Bar service from Cameo \n\nMATT WILSON & HIS ORCHESTRA\nSinger songwriter Matt Wilson and his harp and banjo orchestra perform the best music from Matt’s deep repertoire\, reaching back to his earliest compositions\, and forward as well to the songs he’s chosen from his recent streak of songwriting luck. The group is also capable of spinning up unique and authoritative renditions of old time songs that Matt considers to be among the greatest of all music history. Each piece in their repertoire is presented on a feather bed of banjo rhythms\, arpeggiating harp and reverberant swells of guitar. \nRaised in St. Louis Park\, Minnesota\, Matt became a fan of rockers like Elvis Costello\, Bruce Springsteen and Devo. He and his high school friends formed a group called The Panic\, and spent much of their youth as under-aged performers in Minneapolis nightclubs\, warming up for future luminaries such as Husker Du and The Replacements. In the early 80s\, Matt followed his brother Dan to college in Boston where they formed a number of bands\, including the Love Monsters\, marking Matt’s first turn as a lead singer. Returning to Minneapolis\, the brothers joined forces with bass player John Munson to form Trip Shakespeare\, writing\, recording and touring together for a decade. John and Matt currently perform in a rock band\, The Twilight Hours. \nMatt’s music has been featured on MTV\, Rolling Stone\, The New Yorker\, Spin\, The Toronto Star and many other publications. Trip Shakespeare’s single\, “Toolmaster of Brainerd”\, was named by City Pages one of Minnesota’s 50 Greatest Hits\, and that group was included by nationally-influential radio station The Current in its 2017 list of 893 Most Essential Musical Artists of All Time. Songs from throughout Matt’s career have been featured on The Current\, including the epic “Descender!” from his solo album Burnt\, White & Blue\, and the joyful “Queen of Tomorrow” from The Twilight Hours’ debut LP Stereo Night. \nThe new group which Matt calls an “orchestra” has a grassy sound that’s easy to fall into. Most striking to both the eye and ear is the harp mastery of Phala Tracy. An inventive collaborator\, she is a key element each year at The New Standards Holiday Show. The band’s sound is underpinned by the sparkling banjo groove of Quillan Roe who is best known for his work with the Roe Family Singers\, winners of a prestigious McKnight Fellowship. These sunshine tones of harp and banjo are rolled out on a wide road of electric bass provided by electric guitar ace Jacques Wait and ornamented by Matt’s acoustic guitar\, piano and melodic harmonica stylings. \nLearn more at minneapolismatt.com \n\nLO DUCA\nLo Duca is newly formed collaborative of singer songwriters Crist Dahl\, Jessica Sund and Charlie Bee. They have most recently performed at the Castle’s 2019 Bob Dylan Tribute Show\, and have played together in various local groups for over 10 years.

SUMMARY:Six Mile Grove with Erik Koskinen and Josiah Smith
DESCRIPTION:Six Mile Grove returns to the Castle stage\, bringing along friends Erik Koskinen and Rochester’s own Josiah Smith! \n7:00 pm | Doors\n7:30 pm | Josiah Smith\n8:00 pm | Erik Koskinen\n9:15 pm | Six Mile Grove \nTickets:\n$30 admission-for-two early bird special (GA) – limited quantities\, available through Thursday\, November 7\n$20 advance (GA)\n$25 day of show (GA) \nPremium options: limited quantities\, available through Wednesday\, November 27\n$30 premium reserved seating\n$110 Reserved table for 4 \n\nSIX MILE GROVE\nIt all started in the small town of Lyle\, MN (pop. 500) with a skid loader and a fence post\, when Six Mile Grove frontman Brandon Sampson was 7 years old. He injured his hand when helping his dad on the family farm. The physician recommended guitar playing for rehabilitation\, and a few weeks later\, Sampson came home from the music store with a new guitar. His younger brother Brian threw a fit\, and was appeased with a shiny drum set. And so the seeds of Six Mile Grove were planted. \nThe brothers spent years pounding away on their instruments in the kitchen of their great grandmother’s old house\, as well as singing in church with their mom\, an organist and devoted music lover. Soon Brian’s friend Barry\, from across the woods\, wanted to join the noise\, and so his years of piano lessons began paying off. The boys realized they would need a bass player\, put an ad in the paper\, and dug up Dezi Wallace from the “big city” of Austin\, MN\, who arrived courtesy of his mom\, as he did not yet have a driver’s license. \nFast forward 20 years\, and Six Mile Grove has a lot to be proud of. They have weathered the ever changing music scene as a primarily self-managed\, self-produced\, and self-recorded band. Their music has evolved accordingly\, as an organic\, honest voice that has not been tinkered with or tainted by the lure of record labels or flashy music producers. You’re sure to find influences of Minnesota music’s founding fathers; from Bob Dylan to the Jayhawks. Six Mile Grove honors it’s roots\, but has also managed to forge it’s own sound and space on a stage without compromise. \n\nERIK KOSKINEN\nErik Koskinen’s Burning the Deal (June 28\, 2019\, Real Phonic Records/Tone Tree Music) is steeped in American roots and traditions. \nBorn in Fort Collins\, Colorado\, raised in Northern Michigan and upper New York state\, then living in urban Minneapolis and now\, rural Minnesota\, Koskinen grew up with the rhythms of weather\, factory towns\, and farmlands. Koskinen worked in construction for years as he developed his music career\, and he now resides on a farm near where he owns a recording studio in Cleveland\, Minnesota\, population 717. \nOf Burning the Deal\, he says\, “It’s not only Americana music. I learned how to play blues music. I learned how to play country music\, and how to play folk\, bluegrass\, jazz\, whatever. I learned how to play American music.” The nine songs share a stripped-down\, almost naked quality\, but complexities lie just under their skin. Part of that depth can be attributed to the top-notch players Koskinen recruited: Greg Leisz (Jackson Browne\, Beck\, Joni Mitchell) on lap and pedal steel and mandolin\, plus the rhythm section of drummer Jay Bellerose (Alison Krauss and Robert Plant\, Willie Nelson) and bassist Jennifer Condos (Don Henley\, Marc Cohn\, Ray Lamontagne). As for how he managed to gather them together — twice — for recording sessions in Ojai\, California\, Koskinen quips\, “In the music biz\, you’re always one person away from knowing the president.” \nBurning the Deal\, his fifth album\, follows Cruising Paradise (2018)\, Live at the Real Phonic Radio Hour (2016)\, America Theatre (2014)\, and Keep It to Yourself (2010). \n

Writing and playing songs rooted in the “Minnesota Sound.” \nColin Campbell (vocals/guitar)\, his older brother Cameron (bass)\, and younger brother Evan (Drums/miscellaneous screaming) are living double lives as an indie rock band as well as a blues band. The Shackletons have been generating buzz throughout the Twin Cities area and released their video for their hit “Minnesota Girls” on 89.3 The Current. \n  \n  \n\n\n\nWatch\n \n\n\nListen\n \n\n\n\nHair of the Dog\nHair of the Dog \nHair of the Dog consists of Tracy Sonnier (acoustic guitar/vocals)\, Jeremy Jewell (electric guitar/vocals)\, Mike Nesbit (bass)\, Erik Henriksson (drums/electric guitar/vocals). The musicians are long-time fixtures on the local scene\, both as solo performers and with other bands. In late 2014\, they found themselves band-less and looking for new people to play with. They discovered through playing together that the blend of their individual styles made for a very interesting and eclectic sound. They unveiled this sound to the public at their first public appearance together on New Year’s Eve\, December 31\, 2014. A local music reviewer described the band as “vintage rock.” The show went over so well that they quickly were offered other gigs around town and have played just about every venue available since\, including Kathy’s Pub\, North Star Bar\, The Half Barrel\, The Tap House\, The Doggery\, Forager Brewery and many others\, as well as local music festivals and block parties such as Eco Fest and Social Ice. \nEach band member brings their own distinct musical taste and background to the picture which results in a very organic\, rootsy style that is hard to pinpoint by using any specific genre name. During any given performance\, the audience can expect to hear original music\, ranging from rock’n’roll to funky dance numbers\, folk to blues\, bluegrass and many other styles. \nFollow Hair of the Dog:\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/hairofthedoglovesyou/ \n\n\n\nListen/Watch\n\n\n  \n\nSponsors\, Partners\, and Friends\nThank you to our sponsors and partners: Thesis Beer Project\, Northern Sun Productions\, Cameo at the Castle\, Fox & Fern Floral\, The Med City Beat\, Fairfield Inn & Suites\, The Rochester Posse\,  Pure Rock Studios\, Café Steam\, Wondercloud Media\, and Carpet Booth Studios

SUMMARY:Bad Bad Hats w/ Under The Pavilion at Thesis Beer Project
DESCRIPTION:November 16th\nLocation: Thesis Beer Project\nAge restriction: 16+\nDoors open at: 7:00PM\nUnder The Pavilion: 8:00PM\nBad Bad Hats: 9:00PM\nGeneral Admission \n  \n\nBad Bad Hats\nPhotos by Zoe Prinds-Flash \nBad Bad Hats is an indie rock band from Minneapolis\, Minnesota. The band consists of Kerry Alexander\, Chris Hoge\, and Connor Davison. Named for a trouble-making character from the Madeline children’s books\, Bad Bad Hats is defined by a balance of sweet and sour. Their music honors classic pop songwriting\, with nods to nineties rock simplicity and pop-punk frivolity. Through it all\, Alexander’s unflinchingly sincere lyrics cut to the emotional heart of things. \nAlexander and Hoge met while attending Macalester College in Saint Paul\, Minnesota. In 2012\, they formed Bad Bad Hats with friend and bassist Noah Boswell\, and began performing around the Twin Cities. That same year\, they were signed by Minneapolis label Afternoon Records. Their 2015 debut album Psychic Reader caught the attention of outlets including The New Yorker\, NPR\, Pitchfork\, and Paste. Since the release of Psychic Reader\, Bad Bad Hats has toured the U.S. extensively\, supporting artists including Margaret Glaspy\, Hippo Campus\, and Third Eye Blind. \nLightning Round\, the band’s second full-length album\, finds Bad Bad Hats more confident and mature than ever. Producer and collaborator Brett Bullion (who also produced Psychic Reader) encouraged the group to record live in the studio\, an approach which pushed the band outside of their comfort zone and lends many songs on the record a loose\, organic feel. There is a vulnerability in this (fluttering tape loops\, a few wrong notes) and it makes the music on the new album feel as honest and unpredictable as Alexander’s lyrics. In this spontaneous environment\, Hoge\, who is known to play every instrument in the band\, delivers some of his most inspired musical performances yet. \nFollow Bad Bad Hats on:\nFacebook: facebook.com/badbadhats\nInstagram: @badbadhats\nTwitter: @BadBadHats \nLearn more about Bad Bad Hats at:\nhttp://www.badbadhats.com/ \n\n\n\nWatch\n \n\n\nListen\n \n\n\n\nUnder The Pavilion\nUnder The Pavilion \nUnder the Pavilion draws from 70’s punk and garage band influences. Their music features melodic guitar riffs\, driving drums and loud bass! Having released their first full length album\, When we Started\, February of 2018\, Under the Pavilion is currently playing multiple shows throughout the Midwest and entering the studio June 2019 to record their second album. Featuring Pat Obert on vocals and guitar\, Nate Pettey on drums\, Alex Smith on guitar and Adam Lien on bass; Under the Pavilion’s dynamic lineup translates to high energy performances. \n“There is a lot to be said about the production of the album\, too. The sound is clearly heavily influenced by The Strokes\, and bands of a similar style. It’s rare to hear a band intentionally try and achieve this sound\, but even more uncommon for them to achieve it as well as Under the Pavilion does.”\n– Minnesota Indie Blog \nFollow Under The Pavilion on:\nFacebook: facebook.com/underthepavilionband/\nInstagram: @underthepavilion\nTwitter: @UTP_Music \nLearn more about Under The Pavilion at:\nhttps://www.underthepavilion.com/ \n\n\n\nListen\n \n\n\n\nPick up a “Support Rochester Music” Shirt\n \nWant to enjoy the concert in style and show your support for the Rochester music at the same time? SUMMARY:Debbie Anthony - More To Be Said - Album Release Show
DESCRIPTION:Debbie Anthony – More To Be Said – Album Available 10/4/19 \nDate: October 6\, 2019\nLocation: Rochester Civic Theatre\nTickets: $20/advance and $25/door\nVIP Experience: $50\nDoors Open: 6:00PM \nVIP Toast/Welcome: 6:30PM\nMusic: 7:00PM\n \n\nThe VIP Experience Meet & Greet includes:\nCD\, light apps\, champagne toast\, discounted drinks\, preferred seating. \n\nSPECIAL GUESTS:\nProducer & Engineer\, Gena Johnson\n(worked with artists including: John Prine\, Kacey Musgraves\, Brandi Carlile and more) \nKeyboardist\, Michael Webb\n(currently touring with Hank Williams Jr.) \n  \nDebbie will be joined on stage by producer Gena Johnson on vocals\, Michael Webb on keys\, Carl Stephenson and Drew Medin on electric guitar\, Tim Scribner on bass\, Scott Kovar on drums…and some other very special guests! They will be playing the entirety of her new album with some special stories in between. Debbie is excited to share these new songs and showcase them with all of these incredible musicians for her hometown! \n  \n\nDebbie Anthony\nDebbie Anthony \nDebbie Anthony had done it all. She’d married a great guy\, raised some great kids and sent them off well-prepared into the world. Being disciplined and organized by nature\, not to mention a straight-A student in high school\, she even managed her husband Mitch’s career as a consultant\, lecturer and author of fifteen books in the financial services industry. \nBut for all she had accomplished\, one goal remained. Luckily\, she’s taking care of that too. Just listen to More To Be Said and you know it’s true: This lady was born to make music and claim her place among today’s outstanding country vocalists. \nNow\, Debbie Anthony always loved music\, no doubt about it. While growing up in Minnesota\, she spent hours listening to records by her early favorites\, above all Karen Carpenter\, and singing along. It just took her awhile to pursue a musical career\, and not only because of her commitment to her family. In fact\, there were some final personal hurdles she had to confront before taking that first professional step. \n“I didn’t want to be onstage because I was afraid of forgetting the lyrics!” she admits\, with a smile. “Also\, I was shy\, a very private person. And because my range was so low\, I had trouble finding songs for women that I could comfortably sing. That’s why I sang a lot in groups\, because I could do the lower harmony.” \nTime would resolve both of these issues. After surviving a talent show disaster where the monitor broke down mid-song\, Debbie got that fear about lyrics out of the way. As a music student majoring in voice at North Central University in Minneapolis\, she developed her chops and\, more importantly\, her comfort zone when it came to performing in front of people. More critically\, she discovered country music. Its impact was immediate. \n“None of my friends listened to it\, so I decided I should hate it too\,” she recalls\, laughing. “But when I heard Shania Twain\, that changed immediately. One thing I heard was that she picked songs that were really singable\, with melodies that were suited to my voice. That changed everything.” \nStill\, her family responsibilities made it hard for her to make the plunge into music full-time. This is where Mitch comes into the picture. Though not a songwriter himself\, he wrote the lyrics to “Faithful” to commemorate their 25th anniversary. It was for her the perfect song\, born from their real love for each other and set to a key that suited her too. \nThat song was included in Debbie’s debut album\, All Over Again\, which released in 2017. Now\, with the runway clear\, she has completed More To Be Said\, whose stylistic range is wider\, with a confidence and flair for bringing songs to life in the studio and onstage. \nRecorded at MOXE\, an airy\, light-bathed studio and creative retreat on 20 wooded acres in Nashville\, More To Be Said features some of Music City’s most accomplished and empathic musicians\, with fast-rising studio ace Gena Johnson (Ben Folds\, Dave Cobb –– Chris Stapleton\, Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit — Michael Wagener\, Brandi Carlile\, Kacey Musgraves\, John Prine\, and more) helming the production. \nAll nine tracks made the cut from more than 120 songs initially under consideration. Each one speaks personally to Debbie\, who in turn translates that emotion into a performance that speaks to all listeners. “Faithful” is included\, reminding us once again of love’s life-changing power. Her duet with Dillon Carmichael on “There’s A Part Of Me” confirms that her years of singing harmony make her an ideal vocal partner. The heartbreak she suffered at age 21\, when her first husband died of lung cancer six months into their marriage\, is palpable throughout “Second Best.” The same is true in her cover of Wynonna’s “Jesus And A Jukebox\,” which rocks with the jubilation of the story — and the backstory as well. \n“It turns out that the bass player on my session\, Steve Mackey\, is also in Wynonna’s video\,” Debbie says. “Leslie Richter\, our engineer\, also engineered that record\, and without telling me\, sent a message to Wynonna while this was going on. Wynonna quickly sent a personal video message to me and said\, ‘Debbie\, I’m aware that you’re recording ‘Jesus And A Jukebox.’ That is one of my three favorite songs ever! I want you to make it yours now. Go\, girl!” \nYou can’t find a better blessing than that anywhere in country music. All of which goes to show that though every singer’s road seems to lead to Nashville\, sometimes taking the longer route\, the one that winds through the lessons of life\, is the best one to follow. That was Debbie Anthony’s path — and with More To Be Said\, she has clearly arrived. \n\n“A strong sense of self-worth. An attitude that can take on any challenge. A wisdom and peace that stems only from time\, experience\, and heartache. These are the attributes Minnesota native Debbie Anthony brings to the country music world\, both as a solid vocalist and an infectious spirit one can’t help but take delight in.”\n— Lindsey Sipe\, The Country Note \n  \n\nFollow Debbie Anthony on:\nFacebook: facebook.com/debbieanthonymusic/\nTwitter: @debbieanthony\nInstagram: @debbieanthonymusic\nLearn more about Debbie Anthony at:\nhttps://www.debbieanthonymusic.com/\n\n  \n\n\n\nWatch\n \n\n\nListen\n

The experience changed his life\, made him more or less unemployable\, and brings us to now: 13 recordings\, 250 shows a year or more\, 200\,000 miles on a well broke in Kia\, and a nasty fear of heights. Resonator fueled folk songs from Duluth Minnesota. \n  \nFollow Charlie Parr on:\nTwitter: @theCharlieParr\nFacebook: facebook.com/Charlie.Parr.Music\nInstagram: @charlie.parr \nLearn more about Charlie Parr at:\nhttps://www.charlieparr.com \n  \n\n\n\nWatch\n \n\n\nListen\n \n\n\n\nBarbaro\nPhoto by Chris Taylor \nBarbaro’s music is at once lively and intimate\, perfect for twirling around the dance floor or cooking with someone you love. SUMMARY:Castle Community Inaugural Concert
DESCRIPTION:Join Six Mile Grove with special guests Miles Nielsen & The Rusted Hearts for the inaugural concert at Castle Community! The show will also be Six Mile Grove’s Rochester Release of their newest album “Million Birds”. \n \nNovember 24th – All Ages Show\nCastle Community\nDoors open at: 7:00PM\nMiles Nielsen & The Rusted Hearts: 7:30PM\nSix Mile Grove: 9:00PM\nGeneral Admission\nTickets: $25 Door | $20 Online (plus tax & processing) \n  \n\nSix Mile Grove\n \nIt all started in the small town of Lyle\, MN (pop. The brothers spent years pounding away on their instruments in the kitchen of their great grandmother’s old house\, as well as singing in church with their mom\, an organist and devoted music lover. Six Mile Grove honors it’s roots\, but has also managed to forge it’s own sound and space on a stage without compromise.. \nFollow Six Mile Grove on:\nFacebook: facebook.com/sixmilegrove/\nTwitter: @sixmilegrove \nLearn more about Six Mile Grove at:\nhttp://sixmilegrove.com/ \n  \n\n\n\nWatch\n \n\n\nListen\n \n  \n\n\n\nMiles Nielsen & The Rusted Hearts\n \nRockford\, IL-based Miles Nielsen has spent nearly a decade enthralling audiences with music that draws force from the prime years of Western-influenced rock music and classic ‘60s soul. Heatbox effortlessly blends vocal percussion and vocal turntablism with the simulation of horns\, strings\, musical instruments\, and various sonic anomalies. But that’s not all. He has mastered a wide range of music technologies while grounding them in a firm understanding of quality songwriting\, singing\, and the unifying power of creative expression via live performance. His dedication to the craft of beatboxing and live looping has earned the respect of the hip-hop community and jam music scene throughout the United States and abroad. \nFor nearly a decade Heatbox has pushed the limits of musical possibility and shows no signs of slowing down. His 2013 EP titled “Get Some -Level 1-” the first of a four part collection of four songs each\, has fans and critics buzzing as a new era of creation begins. This project is available for FREE download at www.heatboxllc.com. Additionally\, Massive Amounts of Good recently named Heatbox their “2013 Artist of the Year”\, on the heals of his return from The Take Off Tour as a stand out performer at the 2013 South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Austin\, TX. \nAs an increasingly sought after performer Heatbox enjoyed the unique opportunity to showcase his talent at “Beats on the Beach”\, a three day music festival in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) with notables such as CeeLoo Green\, Eminem\, and Missy Elliot. He is no stranger to the road having toured the US and Canada with fellow solo act That One Guy\, and has opened for artists such as George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic\, Boyz II Men\, Wu Tang Clan\, Medeski Martin and Wood\, Umphrey’s McGee\, Chali 2na\, Warren G\, and many others. Numerous festival appearances have exposed a diverse set of fans to his talent through performances at Summerfest\, 10KFL\, Summercamp\, Harvest Fest\, Bella Music Fest\, Big Wu Family Reunion\, and international festivals like Earthtonz World Music Fest in Queenstown\, New Zealand. \nHeatbox’s discography includes two full-length studio albums\, Entertainment (2006) and System (2009). Included on System was the video game\, Ninja Strike\, designed and programmed entirely by Heatbox himself. Following the System release in 2009\, he co-produced two original music videos\, “Pizza Funk” and “Jack & Coke” alongside acclaimed Boston video producer Spookie Daly. Look for Heatbox to continue to make a significant impact in the creative community through his much anticipated solo performances and appearances with the internationally acclaimed tap dance and music variety show\, Feet Don’t Fail Me Now. Finally\, you can catch him co-hosting the G’Night Jam\, a Twins Cities “late-night” style talk/music/game show he co-created with fellow Minneapolis musician\, Maxaphone. A creative force to behold\, indeed. \nBio via mjgpro.com \n  \n\n\n\nWatch\n \n\n\nListen\n \n\n\n\nHair Of The Dog\n \nHair of the Dog are a musical collective based out of Rochester Minnesota. \nThe band consists of Tracy Sonnier (acoustic guitar/vocals)\, Jeremy Jewell (electric guitar/vocals)\, Mike Nesbit (bass)\, Erik Henriksson (drums/electric guitar/vocals) and Kirstin Kooda (accordion). This eclectic group of musicians have been long-time fixtures on the local scene both as solo performers and with other bands\, but found themselves band-less and looking for new people to play with in late 2014. They discovered through playing together that the blend of their individual styles made for a very interesting and eclectic sound which was unveiled to the public at their first public appearance together on New Year’s Eve\, December 31\, 2014. A local music reviewer described the band as “vintage rock.” The show went over so well that they quickly were offered other gigs around town and have played just about every venue available since\, including Kathy’s Pub\, North Star Bar\, The Half Barrel\, The Tap House\, The Doggery\, Forager Brewery and many others\, as well as local music festivals and block parties such as Thursdays on First and Third\, Eco Fest and Social Ice. Currently\, Hair of the Dog is the house band at the Half Barrel\, playing two standing gigs a month\, along with most special occasions and holidays. Each band member brings their own distinct musical taste and background to the picture which results in a very organic\, rootsy style that is hard to pinpoint by using any specific genre name. During any given performance\, the audience can expect to hear a wide variety of covers and original music\, ranging anywhere from rock and roll such as The Beatles\, Neil Young\, Buddy Holly and The White Stripes\, to funky dance numbers from Prince and Bill Withers\, folk and old country songs from Johnny Cash and John Prine as well as blues\, bluegrass and many other styles. Hair of the Dog has two main songwriters\, Tracy and Jeremy\, who bring ideas to the band which has resulted in a hefty portion of original songs being played at most gigs\, which has so far seen very warm receptions from their audience. The band has been spending time in the studio recently and hope to be releasing their first full length album later this year. \n  \n  \n\n\n\nWatch\n \n\n\n\n\n
