SUMMARY:Winterstate Acoustic at Cafe Steam
DESCRIPTION:LIVE MUSIC || NO COVER \nWinterstate is an alternative rock duo co-founded in 2015 in Valencia\, Spain by Berklee College of Music alumni Kelvin Killmon and Alexander Ortberg. \nAlexander Ortberg and Kelvin Killmon grew up in Minnesota – almost close enough to share an area code – but they were destined to cross paths 4\,500 miles from home under the sun-bleached palm trees at Berklee College of Music in Valencia\, Spain. The two became close friends while pursuing their Master’s degrees in performance and production\, and began working on original songs together. \nWhen the pair graduated in 2016\, Alex returned to Minnesota while Kelvin moved to Seattle\, but their musical collaboration has continued to flourish. Connected by interstate 90\, they chose the name WINTERSTATE as a reference to their long-distance work relationship and the icy climates of Minnesota and northern Washington. Their debut album “The Ride” was recorded simultaneously in both locations – with musical ideas being developed and traded back and forth over the Internet. \nWINTERSTATE will be touring the Midwest and Pacific Coast with a rotating lineup of guest musicians in 2019 to promote the release of “The Ride”!

DESCRIPTION:The Scallions are a subset of the Nodding Wild Onions\, a locally famous band that surely you have heard of. The Scallions feature Beth Atkinson on mandolin and fiddle\, Randy Crawford on guitar\, vocals\, and the occasional harmonica\, newcomer Emily Earl (our greenest Onion) on vocals and the occasional flute\, and Phil Wheeler on guitar and occasional vocals. The Scallions play crossover blues\, original songs\, and other songs of pretty wide appeal.

SUMMARY:Andrew Markley at Cafe Steam
DESCRIPTION:Andrew Markley Music is an acoustic singer/songwriter based out of Lawrence\, Kansas. Getting his start in 2013 under the name Long Story Short\, Andrew debuted his musical endeavors with his single “Who You Are” (produced by Rockside Sound Productions aka RSP). Shortly after\, Andrew raised over $1000 through a Kickstarter campaign to fund his first ever EP “Tried and True” (produced by RSP). His success with the Kickstarter campaign allowed him to produce yet another EP as a stretch goal\, titled “Long Story Short: Live from the Rockside Room”. Andrew then entered into a two year hiatus that he emerged from in June 2018\, producing and releasing his first EP as Andrew Markley\, “PAUSE”\, an EP of 3 songs written and recorded in 6 hours. \nMarkley released his first ever full-length album\, “Alternate Endings”\, on November 1st\, 2018. The album was produced by Little Dipper Studios in Lawrence\, KS. The album focuses on how man dreams up alternate endings to the trials they face\, when the reality is every book is bound for a purpose\, and every book has an ending firmly held in place by the ink upon the pages. \nThrough his five year musical career\, Andrew has played several places throughout Midwest and shared the stage with artists such as Little Chief\, Jonathan Thulin\, Matt Baird of Spoken\, Dan Hubbard\, Sweet Ascent\, and Mitch Langley. Andrew can be found playing small coffee shops or bars in an intimate and inviting setting.

Our stage is open to performance arts of all kinds including Poetry\, Spoken Word\, Singer-Songwriter\, Comedy – If it can be seen and performed you are welcomed! Whether its your first or five-hundredth time performing\, this is the perfect chance for you to become more involved in the arts scene! \nTo sign up – Check in with your open mic MC (the one with the list) at 7pm. The list WILL fill up so we recommend showing up a little early. Grab a coffee or tea\, tune up\, rehearse and enjoy the performances while you wait for your name to be called!
