SUMMARY:Queer Dance Party at Canvas & Chardonnay
DESCRIPTION:The summer Queer Dance Parties were such a success that we decided to extend them into PSL season\, so get your daddy on by sporting your favorite cardigan and short shorts cause it’s sweater weather up in here. \nA few QDP FAQs for the new kids: \nWill there be painting since it’s at Canvas & Chardonnay?\nNo\, we push tables to the side and hide all the easels to create a mega dance floor for shaking and shimmying of all sorts. \nWill there be alcoholic beverages?\nOf course! We will have a wide range of alcohol from which to choose. Cash and cards are accepted \nDoes it cost to attend?\nNo\, we are creating a space and a community. However\, there is a suggested donation of $5 at the door to pay our entertainers and artists. \nDo I have to be queer to attend?\nWe are creating a space for EVERYONE in the community to feel welcome and comfortable expressing themselves. \nDo I need to bring a date\, or can I fly solo?\nMost people who attend are flying solo or are with their gay posse. The point of this monthly manic music melange is to create a community. Come make new friends! \nWhy Mondays?\nBecause it’s a night we can make magic in a venue that is open and accepting of everyone in our growing community. \nHow can queers perform or display their artwork at the dance parties?\nEmail Chad Allen: queerdancepartyrochester@gmail.com

Armed with acoustic guitars and sibling-like vocal harmonies\, Ilika Ward’s songwriting is one part modern folk\, one part throwback to the sounds of the 1960’s folk revival. DESCRIPTION:Art Heads Live: Wyatt Moran + Corrie Strommen Photography \nTuesday\, November 13th. Doors at 6:30\, Music at 7\n$7 preshow / $10 at the door\nAll ages \nWYATT MORAN \nWyatt on “Junior”\, released August 17\, 2018: \n“i’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately. \ni couldn’t give you a specific moment that led me to all the contemplation that i’ve been experiencing recently. all i really know is that this past year kicked me in my nuts on multiple occasions. lots of new experiences and relationships and people and music plus one big thick breakup that led me to where i am today. if i’m being totally honest i don’t really know where i’m headed after this; nothing is really concrete in this world and that’s a little scary to me. all that i know for sure is that writing and performing and doing what i’ve been doing is something that i will continue to do for my whole life. \nthrough all of my self reflection i’ve realized that this isn’t really a collection of songs about my junior year – at least not as much so as the other two records. it’s more a collection of open letters and thoughts about people and the relationships you have with them as well as the relationships you build with yourself. these are songs about people. these are songs about things that all of us have experienced at certain points in our lives and how much they suck but also how great they can be at times. \nthese are songs about you and me. \nwyatt” \nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/wyattjmoran/\nBandcamp: https://wyattmoran.bandcamp.com/ \nCORRIE STROMMEN PHOTOGRAPHY \nFreelance photographer Corrie Strommen is often found behind an espresso machine or the lens of her camera. In her scarce free time she enjoys reading\, writing\, hiking\, live music and traveling. \nCorrie says: \n“I’ve found myself in Rochester at an exciting time as it has lately begun an upswing in the growth of the art and music scene. I’ve been particularly fortunate to be heavily involved in Café Steam\, which has created within itself a thriving\, supportive artists’ community\, home to many collaborations and conversations that have pushed me to grow in my personal work and creativity. I’m deeply inspired also by travel\, the new places and experiences that accompany it\, the art of simplicity\, and nature.” \nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/corrie.strommenphotography\nRAW Artist Showcase: http://www.rawartists.org/corriestrommenphotography\nInstagram: @corriestrommen

DESCRIPTION:“Lost Letters”\, which will also be available as an interactive experience for Windows 10 download or on limited edition USB sticks at this show // \nMilwaukee based multimedia artist LUXI grew up enthralled by the arts\, mainly practicing classical piano\, painting\, and dance. While during her time at MIAD earning her BFA in Integrated Studio Arts\, she became interested in electronic based media and started producing electronic music to combine with her visual projects. \nShe now creates experimental and electro-pop music with raw vocals and emotional melodies. She prefers playing smaller intimate shows\, where the experience can truly become a magical connection between performer and audience. LUXI has been expanding into multimedia arts\, teaching herself video game design and 3D art\, is interested in innovative sensory experiences. \nSee a preview of the game/album here:: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B08eNUp1wgM

The pairing of their very different but easily intermixed styles establishes a mood that is right at home in someone’s living room as well as in a crowded dive bar. SUMMARY:Dreamspook and Mottle at Canvas Chardonnay
DESCRIPTION:Art Heads Live: Dreamspook + Mottle + Artwork by Layne Noser \nTuesday\, October 16th. Doors at 6:30\, Music at 7.\n$7 preshow / $10 at the door. All ages. \nDREAMSPOOK \nEarning the critical acclaim of himself and a few friends\, Dreamspook’s colorful and groovy first album ‘King In The Folly Keep’ was released then quickly lost beneath a sea of failed expectations and existential grief in the summer of 2017. So\, tired of attempting to ‘make it’\, the goal now is to subvert the expectations of himself and of the industry that is. Reinvigorated by the ever unfolding mystery of creation\, and intending to mirror it\, the project will continue on\, concerning itself with exploration and beauty. ‘There’s only to become’\, he sings in a song that may never be released\, and what would it matter? If one person hears and finds themselves in the wonder of becoming\, fractal reasoning would have us believe that real growth and change spirals out from the tiniest things. \nI am Gabriel Jorgensen\, this is Dreamspook\, let’s get weird together. \nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/dreamspook/\nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/dreamspook/\nBandcamp: https://dreamspookmusic.bandcamp.com/ \nSpecial thanks to niice things for booking assistance! \nMOTTLE \nMottle is an ambient/experimental music project by Chris Kostelec featuring muted vocals\, odd synthesis\, and traditional melody. \nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/mottleband/\nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mottleofficial/ \nARTWORK BY LAYNE NOSER \nLayne R Noser is a visual artist\, digital artist\, writer\, musician and designer from Wasioja\, Minnesota. He works in charcoal\, pastel and pen and ink drawings\, in addition to oil\, acrylic\, watercolor and spray paint. His writing consists of novels\, short stories\, poems and songs. Currently he is Vice President of Gallery 24 and a board member of The Mantorville Art Guild. His work can be viewed in several establishments in Rochester Minnesota and the surrounding area or online on his artist page. \nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/ArtistCurrentlyKnownAsLoveWolf/

SUMMARY:Humbird and Sleeping Jesus at Canvas and Chardonnay
DESCRIPTION:Art Heads Live: Humbird + Sleeping Jesus \nTuesday\, September 11th. Doors @ 6:30\, Music @ 7\n$10 preshow//$13 at the door\nAll ages \nHUMBIRD \nAfter traversing 5 continents and 20 countries with only a guitar and a backpack\, Humbird returns home to sing songs from the edge of the world. Combining a wintry longing with the warmth of a familiar folktale\, Humbird stretches traditional genres of folk and Americana to embrace the unexpected. This music invites a refreshing dissonance into the house\, it leaves breadcrumbs along the path and reflects light back at the stars. \nCreating music out of a mosaic of influences like Joni Mitchell\, Bon Iver and Bill Frisell\, Humbird weaves it all together with powerful lyrics and a stubborn pursuit of the sound of the North. The release of Humbird’s double EP “Elsewhere” and “Where Else” in Summer 2017 is just the beginning. \nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/humbirdhumbird/\nWebsite: http://www.humbirdmusic.com/\nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/humbirdhumbird/\nSoundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/humbirdhumbird \nSLEEPING JESUS \nA failed move to New York and new love was just the existential dilemma Minnesota’s Nick Elstad needed to give life to his indie dream pop project\, Sleeping Jesus. 2016 saw the release of the Perennial EP\, a hazy and sweet four song journey of young love and the beautiful foolishness that accompanies it. The now five piece group went from basement to the main stage at First Avenue in one short year\, picked as one of the best new bands of Minneapolis in 2016. \nThe groups new EP\, “House Plants”\, due out September 1\, was pulled together during the Minnesota winter of 2017. Like an Aural Lens into the life of Elstad over the last five years\,”House Plants” contains both the most recent songs (COAST) and nearly one of the first songs he had finished (Gold Shades). Self indulgent and yet honest to the kaleidoscope of emotions evoked by the songs of “House Plants”\, the EP plays out more like a series of existential ramblings than pop tunes. The four songs are a personal and linear view of fleeting youth\, wasted days\, and young love. \nHouse plants hanging from cracked plaster ceilings. Propped up in the perfect fingerprint stained sunlight. Beautiful and unaware of time. Innocent of the seasons. Unnoticed and growing quietly through the years. \nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/sleepingjesusmusic/\nWebsite: http://sleepingjesusmusic.com/\nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/sleepingjesusmusic/\nSpotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/2HdmMDI7Kl4mUZdB6m4mp4
