The D’Sievers is a jazz quartet featuring trombone that has been active in South East Minnesota for the past ten years. In 2016, the band was one of the featured performers at the Rochester City Jazz Festival.

In 2015 they released a CD of original music entitled Trombots and Mermaids. The CD includes eight original tracks composed by The D’Sievers’ trombonist John Sievers. Sievers is joined by Kurt Savela (drums), Steve Sawyer (bass), and Eric Straubmuller (piano). The CD’s songs range from blues tunes like “The Mermaid Shuffle” to a bossa nova: “Careless.”

John Sievers studied trombone at the University of Northern Iowa where he performed with the university’s top jazz ensemble. The band released two critically acclaimed albums on the Sea Breeze label. Sievers has also performed with notable musical acts like The Buckinghams, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, and Benny Golson. The D’Sievers as a whole features improvisation and a sense of humor. The band offers its audience a money back guarantee if the audience ever hears the same song played the same way twice.
