GENERAL B AND THE WIZGeneral B and the Wiz - Rochester, MN

General B and the Wiz is a band you’ve heard of, perhaps not consciously, but somewhere deep in your bones where you keep cellular knowledge of lives past and experiences to come. They’re like a toothpick in your mouth: useful, pleasing, and slightly dangerous. Their music is going to make you punch somebody or fist bump your neighbor, depending on how prepared the other person is. | Facebook | Instagram

JILLIAN RAEJillian Rae - Rochester, MN

Jillian Rae is a truly multi-disciplinary singer, songwriter, and performer. Always connected to her roots in Northern Minnesota, the Minneapolis musician has expanded on her upbringing as a classical violinist to become one of the most powerful and unique voices in the Twin Cities music scene. Having cultivated a reputation as the go-to violin accompanist for dozens of bluegrass, rock, and pop bands (including The Okee Dokee Brothers, Corpse Reviver, Adam Levy, and Steve Kaul & the Brass Kings) Jillian Rae planted her own flag in the musical landscape with the 2013 release of Heartbeat, a confident pop record with subtle nods to her bluegrass and classical pedigrees. Her songs are full of heartache, truth, and often a beguiling sense of playfulness. Rae’s songwriting is not easily pigeonholed, and neither is her playing. You can find her playing country fiddle on one tune, rock guitar on the next, or driving her violin through synthy guitar effects on another. | Facebook | Instagram

MIKE MUNSONMike Munson - Rochester, MN

Mike Munson makes his home in Winona, Minnesota, a town sandwiched between the Mississippi River and the bluffs, with train tracks cutting through its middle. Well known for playing outstanding slide guitar blues, the driving rhythms in his songs are reminiscent of the trains that barrel through his neighborhood. He’s a humble fellow who loves making food and playing guitar and singing. Munson’s blues influences include Fred McDowell, Jack Owens, and Jesse Mae Hemphill – who all hailed from areas of rural Mississippi that Munson visits often. (His upcoming album, “Rose Hill”, was recorded in Bentonia, MS at the Blue Front Cafe, the oldest juke joint in Mississippi owned by Jimmy “Duck” Holmes.) From sad and somber slow tunes to swampy, caterwauling stompers, his music is a master class in creative blues composition and performance, lyrically compelling, full of unique turns and twists, yet never losing sight of his art form and the music’s roots. When not making music, Munson tends a large garden, canning gallons of salsa and hot sauce, and cooking meals for anyone who stops over. Word is getting out about Mike Munson. If you know the style, here is a master of the form. If you don’t, come and be amazed. | Facebook | Instagram

AUTHORAuthor, Rochester, MN

Author is a three-piece indie rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, formed by brothers Trevor and Cameron Bartlett and later joined by multi-instrumentalist Zach Zurn. Author found an immediate home in the Twin Cities local music community, regularly playing DIY house-shows and notable venues such as First Avenue/7th Street Entry and the late Triple Rock Social Club. Several major, long-term tours both abroad and domestically created a loyal, passionate fan base for the band. Author’s dreamy, atmospheric soundscapes, pop sensibility, and relatable storytelling paint a picture of the times and places wherein the songs were created. With the recent release of their second full length LP, Author plans to take “I I F O I IC” (Is It Far Or Is It Close) back on the road. | Facebook | Instagram

KARATE CHOP, SILENCEKarate Chop, Silence - Rochester, MN

Picture your favorite karate movie. Now imagine that the actors used instruments instead of their fists. Now imagine that instead of studying martial arts, they studied jazz and were taught by modern radio instead of a Sensei – and also knew nothing about karate. Karate Chop, Silence is sorta like that. | Facebook | Instagram

AUDREY ROBINSONAudrey Robinson, Rochester, MN

Audrey Robinson is the truth. Hailing from Iowa where she burned down many venues with her band Peas and Carrot, this recent transplant to Rochester combines everything you love about music. The moment she begins to play you will hear elements of folk, indie and punk. Audrey will simultaneously tear out your heart and spit in your face with both her music and voice. This is a set that cannot be missed. Audrey Robinson is the truth! | Facebook

NIKOLA HAMILTONNikola, Rochester, MN

Nikola Hamilton is a musician and songwriter residing in Rochester Minnesota. His music combines honest songwriting with a diverse catalog of musical influences ranging from indie and classic rock to modern pop and R&B. Nikola has played with several Rochester native bands over the last 4 years, including Cherry Isles, LEVELEST, and with Samuel Butterfass. Currently Nikola is the lead guitar player in the band for VILD, and is in the process of recording an EP of his original songs at Carpet Booth Studios where he also works as assistant engineer. Though relatively new to the music scene of Southeast Minnesota he has plans to play as many shows as possible in 2019 and to release his first collection of solo work. Joining Nikola on stage for The Rochester Thaw are two of Rochester’s finest young musicians; Wyatt Moran and Charlie Burket.
